Court slams N1m bail on ‘fake policeman’ over impersonation, N12, 000 extortion


A man , Ayomide Olorundare , was on Monday released on N1 m bail on the orders of a Tinubu Magistrates
’ Court , Lagos , over alleged impersonation of a policeman and extortion of N12 , 000 from a motorist .

The 43 - year - old is facing a two - count of impersonation and fraud.

Olorundare , however , pleaded not guilty .

The Magistrate, Mr Omolaja Kazeem , said the accused must provide two responsible sureties in like sum .

Earlier , the prosecutor , Insp . Philip Osijiale , told the court that the accused committed the offences on March 24 at about 10 . 00 a . m . at Thomas Estate , Ajah, Lagos .

He said the accused , who posed as a police officer attached to Ajah Divisional Headquarters , unlawfully obtained N12 , 000 from a motorist , Mr David Udumukwu .
The prosecutor alleged that the accused also handcuffed the motorist .

The offences contravened Sections 77 and 312 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State , 2015 ( as amended ).

Section 77 stipulates four years imprisonment for impersonating members of the Armed Forces or the Police , while Section 312 prescribes 15 years for obtaining by false pretences .

The case was adjourned until April 19 for mention .
