NIGERIANS CAN NOW FILE TAX RETURNS ONLINE - FARS

 Individuals and corporate organisations in the country can now file their tax
returns online.

Director of Information and Communication Technology, ICT, of the Federal Inland Revenue Service, FIRS,Mr. Kola Okunola, told journalists at a workshop, in Abuja, yesterday, with the introduction of Integrated Tax Administration System, ITAS, tax payers could do business with the FIRS without physically visiting its offices.

He said: “ITAS automates the processes for registration, self assessment, audit, payments, refund, accounting and other functions of the Federal Inland Revenue Service.

“It enables tax payers to file their returns and pay online. It provides self-service and improves the efficiency of tax administration and reduces turnaround time for providing services to taxpayers, thereby improving voluntary compliance.”
He disclosed that the service was also in the process of updating its website to capture several other new platforms, adding that technology brings transparency into tax administration.

The platforms include Pay Direct software, an application that enables the collection of taxes through bank branches in all the approved collecting banks; FIRS Webportal, which enables on-line, real-time monitoring of collections; and FIRS TaxPayer database with unique taxpayer identification numbering capability.

Others are AutoSWIFT, which provides online access to FIRS Domiciliary accounts held offshore by the Central Bank of Nigeria; FIRS e-Tax pay solution, a self-service solution that enables taxpayers to pay all taxes from the comfort of their offices or homes through
