FEDERAL GOVERNMENT FORMALLY ANNOUNCES THE CLOSURE OF ABUJA INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT


The Federal Government has formally announced the closure
of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, beginning
from 12 a.m. Wednesday.
This was announced by the Minister of Information, Lai
Mohammed, at a world press conference Monday in Abuja.
The airport will be close for six weeks.
Also speaking, the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi
Amaechi, said the government has kept its promise to make
Kaduna Airport ready for use as alternative.
Also, the Minister of State in charge of Aviation, Hadi Sirika,
said observations made by acting President Yemi Osinbajo
who was in Kaduna Airport on Friday had been “taken care
of”.
He said the government has set up a website:
www.abujaairportclosure.info, through which information will
be shared with Nigerians.
In his own remarks, the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim
Idris, said he went to Kaduna by air and returned by road last
week” in order to carry out full assessment of the security
arrangements.
Mr. Idris said he visited all the railway stations between
Kaduna and Abuja
“Everything appeared perfect. Specialised unit of the Police,
the EOD, Animals, Mobile and the air wing are fully deployed
and are on the ground,” he said.
The IGP said patrol vehicles had been deployed along the
Abuja/Kaduna expressway.
The Police boss said patrol units have also been deployed
between Rigasa railway terminal and Kaduna airport, while
the same is made between Idu terminal and Kubwa in Abuja
