HOW FAYOSE WAS PUBLICLY HUMILIATED IN EKITI

The Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, this afternoon got more than he bargained for in Isan Ekiti, the home town of former Governor Kayode Fayemi, as his plot to steal the show in his usual manner to embarrass the minister turned awry, resulting in a huge embarrassment as he was booed to no end by the crowd of angry women, including those he had recruited to be among his cheering crowd.

From across the local government, Fayose recruited his supporters, women and drummers to outshine Fayemi in his own town.

In his usual style of always wanting to steal the show whenever Dr. Fayemi is present at any occasion, he came late to the coronation ceremony of the new Onisan of Isan Ekiti, Oba Ayodele Adejuwon. The Master of  Ceremony had earlier announced that Fayose's Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Mr. Kolade Kolapo, represented the Governor. Long after Dr. Fayemi made his speech and departed for an urgent national assignment, Fayose came with his usual razzmatazz when the Erelu of Isan Kingdom and wife of Minister for Mines and Steel Development, Chief (Mrs) Bisi Fayemi, was doing her traditional dance as demanded by custom and as contained in the programme.

The women were dancing with Erelu and were oblivious of the arrival of Fayose. The crowd of a singing party that Fayose had assembled had thinned out when the governor did not show up. By the time Fayose arrived when the programme was about to be concluded, the remnants of his rented crowd who had lost their patience did not have the courage to identify with the governor as Erelu Fayemi danced away with a huge crowd of women dancing with her.

Fayose entered the arena thoroughly embarrassed and became uncomfortable where he sat.

The women singing Erelu's praises became very angry when the Chairman of Oye Local Govt insinuated that he caused Dr. Kayode Fayemi to run away from the event because Fayose was coming.

This infuriated the women, as they increased the tempo of their songs and started abusing Fayose with parables that he will soon vacate his position.

As if that was not enough, when it was time  for Fayose to make his speech, life was choked out of the loudspeakers, as they refused to work. He tried in vain for several minutes to bring the microphone and loudspeakers back to life.

Frustrated, Fayose started to deliver a message that nobody heard, as the crowds watching a masquerade performance were more interested in the entertainment by the heavenly creature than what their governor wanted to say.

With the loudspeakers refusing to work, Fayose resorted to  governorship monologue, as the governor only spoke to himself, even as the women increased the tempo of their singing and dancing. Nobody heard what he was saying.

A furious Fayose came back to his seat next to the oba and started complaining to Erelu Bisi Fayemi and former Deputy Governor of Ekiti State, Prof. Modupe Adelabu, that they should help appeal to the women to calm down and stop singing.

Erelu tried to calm the women down but they didn't bulge, citing the utterances of Oye local government chairman insinuating  that he chased Dr. Fayemi away as the reason for their anger.

Promptly, Fayose who was by then sweating profusely as a result of the embarrassment, summoned the local government chairman and asked him if he actually said he sent Dr. Fayemi away but he flatly denied it.

The women became angrier in reaction to the lie by the LG Chairman, even as the tempo and pitch of their singing increased. A restless Fayose kept complaining  to Erelu Bisi Fayemi and Prof. Adelabu who were also  helpless in calming the women down.

Olota News Review observed that Fayose contributed to his own humiliation, as it was apparent that those he used to rely upon in such occasions had turned their back on him over unpaid salary while allegations of frauds that benefit him alone and neglect of his followers were also cited for non-support for him at that crucial public function.

Fayose was simply left to his fate. It became so bad that one of the APC women told Fayose to his face, saying: "In or before 2018, you shall be removed."

A shocked Fayose could not stomach this, as he asked loudly:  "You will remove me"? And he received a thunderous "yes" from the women.

Impatience was boldly written on Fayose's face, but to leave the table in the face of the hostility became a problem. But a foxy Fayose, as usual, had an answer to make a photo-finish disappearance from that hostile environment.

To the surprise of everyone, Fayose pushed a fast one, appeasing the women with N500, 000 and joined them in dancing but the women increased the praise songs for Dr. Fayemi, saying he is their son who has done well for them not only in the town but in the state.

Fayose left the occasion highly subdued and embarrassed. One indigene of Isan who was telling another person what happened remarked in Yoruba, saying: "Bawo ni man yi se le ro wipe oun le wa si Isan wa yeye Omo won, ki won de maa woo niran?" (How did this man think he can come to Isan and embarrass their son and think the people of the town will keep quiet?)

Sources close to Fayose hinted that he was very angry with the Oye Local Government Chairman and the member of House of Assembly representing the area, Dr. Samuel Omotoso, for allowing him to be humiliated in such manner.

Fayose is said to be strategising against next week's burial of General Adeyinka Adebayo so that he doesn't suffer similar fate.
