DEPOSED IYALOJA DRAGS OLUBADAN AND OTHERS TO COURT

The deposed Iyaloja of Ibadan land , Chief Labake Lawal , has dragged the Olubadan of Ibadan land , Oba Saliu Adetunji , the Olubadan - in - Council and the new Iyaloja of the land, Chief Iswat Ameringun, before an Oyo State High Court , over her removal as the Iyaloja .

The Olubadan had on May 8 , 2017 warned Lawal to stop parading herself as the Iyaloja of the land or risk facing the wrath of the law . This followed an interview Lawal granted to an Ibadan - based radio station , where she claimed to be the Iyaloja .

After 11 years on the throne , Lawal was removed by the monarch while Ameringun was installed as her successor on March 20 , 2017 . The monarch reiterated that there was no parallel office of Iyaloja in the city except the real office occupied by Ameringun.

But in a suit filed by her counsel, Akinjide Sadiq , Lawal is praying the court to declare as illegal the appointment and installation of Ameringun by the monarch and Ibadan high chiefs .

The deposed Iyaloja said the appointment and the installation of a new Iyaloja was wrong , stressing that it was also a violation of her right to natural justice. In view of her prayers to the court , Lawal is urging the court to declare Ameringun’ s appointment null and void and of no legal effect .

In her application for an interlocutory injunction, Lawal is praying the court to restrain the Olubadan and the Olubadan - in - Council from recognising Ameringun as the Iyaloja . She is also asking the court to restrain the new Iyaloja from parading herself as such , pending the determination of the suit .

Speaking to journalist after filing the case in Ibadan , Lawal said that she was still in possession of the certificate issued to her as the Iyaloja of Ibadan land , saying that until the court decided otherwise , she was still the one bestowed with the title.
