Group of protesters against the removal of Ali Ndume |
Supporters of former Senate Majority Leader Mohammed Ali Ndume have stormed the National Assembly to protest his suspension by the
upper house of legislature last week.
It was gathered that that the supporters are presently blocking the main entrance of the Assembly complex.
They are carrying placards and banners and are calling for a change to the decision to suspend the Borno South representative.
On its part, Premium Times reports that the protesters arrived at the National Assembly gate early on Tuesday with placards lambasting senate president Bukola Saraki and the Senate.
A placard read: “Saraki is a curse.”
The report said many of the protesters claimed to be natives of southern Borno but mostly live in Mararaba and Masaka areas of Abuja and preliminary investigations by the online medium shows they were not a “rented crowd”.
its own report, The Punch says that the protesters were largely made up of Internally Displaced Persons and Borno State indigenes resident in Abuja.
It reports that they said Ndume’s suspension was unfair and added that Borno South people have lost their voice with the suspension of the lawmaker.
You will recall that the Nigerian Senate suspended former majority leader Ali Ndume for six months for bringing unproven allegations against his colleagues Senator Dino Melaye and Senate President Bukola Saraki.
The move was one of the recommendations of the Senate Committee on Ethics and Privileges which probed the allegations of certificate forgery against Melaye and avenging of seized bulletproof Range Rover against Saraki
